AWS Certification Prerequisites:

  • Experience designing available, cost efficient, fault tolerant, and scalable distributed systems on AWS
  • In-depth knowledge of a at least one high-level programming language

Certification:

AWS Certification exams are administered at Kryterion Testing Centers in over 750 locations across the globe and you can register online to take the exam.Please note that AWS Certification exams are not a component part of this course.

CURRICULUM

Day 1

 Introduction of AWS – Recognize terminology and concepts as they relate to the AWS platform and navigation of AWS Management Console.   AWS Infrastructure: Compute, Storage, and Networking – Understand the foundation infrastructure services, including Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), Auto Scaling, and Elastic Load Balancing (ELB).       Cloud Front, Route53

  • EC2- Different instance types and families. EC2 Pricing – different models and when to choose what? Introduction to AWS Monthly Calculator, Launching EC2 – user-data, meta-data.
  • EBS – Types and usage. How to do backups and move data between regions. Snapshots – how to manage these.
  • Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) in detail – Public, private and VPN only subnet. CIDR notation, VPC security – Security group, NACL, Route Tables. Creation Considerations, VPC Peering.
  • Simple Storage Service (S3) – Different storage classes in S3, Lifecycle policies, Versioning, S3 Website hosting, Basic CLI commands.

Glue with Data Catalog, Kinesis, Key Management Service.

Lab: Create a new VPC with Public and Private Subnets. Launch EC2 instances & Database instances in Private Subnet with ELB in Public Subnet. Static assets should be served out of S3. Make the website work with appropriate Security Group and NACL rules.

Day 2

 

AWS Security, Identity, and Access Management – Understand the security measures AWS provides and key concepts of AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM). Users, groups, roles, policies and permissions.  Monitoring and Metrics (CloudWatch)

  • Demonstrate ability to monitor availability and performance
  • Demonstrate ability to monitor and manage billing and cost optimization processes Implementing High Availability & Scalability
  • Implement scalability and elasticity based on scenario
  • Ensure level of fault tolerance based on business needs

Lab: Create an Auto-scaling group managed environment and check the termination of instances. Configure CloudWatch alarms. Terminate instances and check ASG working. Also, check scheduled actions in case of Auto scaling group. AWS Databases – Understand AWS database services, including Amazon DynamoDB and Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS).   

  • RDS – Single AZ and Multi-AZ deployment, automated backups, scaling. DB snapshots, DB subnet group.
  • DynamoDB – Tables, partition and sort key, Read and write throughput calculation, advantages

Lab: Create a multi-AZ RDS and connect same from a remote machine. Take backup of RDS and move to a different region and create a new RDS. Play with Manual and Automates snapshots.

 

Day 3

Group Discussion 1: Forklift an Existing Application onto AWS Automating Your Infrastructure

  • AWS CloudFormation, AWS Elastic Beanstalk, AWS OpsWorks, and Amazon EC2 Run Command

Decoupling Your Infrastructure

  • Managed services, microservices and serverless architectures
  • Amazon SQS, Amazon SNS, DynamoDB, Amazon API Gateway, Amazon Lambda

Designing Web-Scale Storage

  • Media and data hosting strategies that will scale quickly and cost-effectively

Group Discussion 2: Build an Environment for a New Web Application

 

Day 4

 AWS Well-Architected Framework Pillars: Security and Reliability

  • Principles and common implementation practices for each pillar
  • Improve this architecture exercise for each pillar

Lab: Multi-Region Failover with Amazon Route 53 AWS Well-Architected Framework Pillars: Performance Efficiency and Cost Optimization

  • Principles and common implementation practices for each pillar
  • Improve this architecture exercise for each pillar

Troubleshooting

  • How to identify and solve common configuration and design issues

  • Labs are comprehensive and take time to complete.
  • Lot of demos would be shown and lesser slides while covering the topics. Encourage participants to make notes, as they find things unique/useful.
  • Case Studies / Group Discussions are designed in a manner to bring the team work and understanding of participants in light. This helps a lot in polishing & verifying their understanding.
